Potomac Pond Construction Taking Shape with Waterfalls and Plantings

This Potomac build is one of those jobs that just keeps getting better as each piece comes together. The waterfall structure is running, the pond is full, and we're deep into the planting phase - placing each plant with intention so the whole thing feels like it grew there naturally rather than being dropped in overnight.

That's actually the hardest part of a build like this. Anyone can stack rocks and add water. Getting the plantings right - the layering, the variety, the way different textures play off the stone - that's what separates a pond that looks built from one that looks like it belongs. We're working through the edges carefully, mixing ornamental grasses, coneflowers, colocasia, and low groundcovers to fill things in without crowding the rock work.

The waterfall construction on this one is substantial. Multiple tiers drop water down through large natural boulders before it reaches the main pond below. The sound alone is going to be something else once you're sitting out here. We still have the fire spillway bowl to install, which is going to add a whole other dimension to this space after dark.

The surrounding hardscape is equally impressive - a white stone coping with a classic balustrade detail runs along one side, giving the whole setup a polished, estate-like feel. It's a serious outdoor space, and we're treating every detail like it matters. Because it does.
