Pondless Waterfall Rebuild Done Right in Arlington VA

A lot of water features in the DC area were put in years ago and just never touched again. The pump gets sluggish, the rocks shift, water starts going where it shouldn't - and eventually the whole thing just sits there looking rough. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this one in Arlington, VA.

We stripped it all the way down. Old liner out, reservoir excavated, everything cleared so we could start fresh with a solid foundation. The black basin crates you see staged around the site are part of the pondless system - they hold water underground so there's no open pond to worry about, just the waterfall sound and the look without the maintenance headache of a traditional pond. It's a smart setup for most backyards.

Once the underlayment and liner were set, we rebuilt the rock work from the ground up. That's where most of the time goes - getting each stone positioned so the water actually flows the way it should, not just drizzles down the side or splashes out where you don't want it. There's no shortcut to getting that right. You're testing flow, adjusting, repositioning, testing again.

The finished result is a multi-tier cascade that moves water cleanly from top to bottom - full flow, no dead spots, no leaking edges. The river rock bed at the base ties it all together and gives the whole feature a natural, finished look that fits the space. It sounds exactly like you'd hope a backyard waterfall would sound.
