Most people think you need a big yard to pull off a pond. This job proves otherwise. We built this compact koi pond right into an existing patio in Alexandria, and it fits the space like it was always meant to be there.
The stacked stone waterfall wall is the real anchor of this setup. That kind of stonework takes patience - each layer has to be set right so the water sheet falls clean into the pond below. The result is a feature that looks like it belongs to the architecture of the house, not something that was just dropped in afterward.
We added three baby koi once the pond was settled and running. They're already at home in there. The aquatic plants help with water quality and give the fish some cover, which gets the whole ecosystem off to a good start from day one.
The nighttime shot tells its own story. Underwater lighting turns this thing into a completely different feature after dark - the waterfall catches the glow, the water shimmers, and it becomes the focal point of the whole outdoor space. That's the kind of detail that makes a water feature worth building right.
A pond this size fits naturally alongside outdoor furniture, container plants, and everyday patio life. It doesn't take over the space - it makes the space feel more like somewhere you actually want to spend time.
