After 18 years, this koi pond's liner had finally run its course. That's a solid run - but liners don't last forever, and when they go, you've got to go all the way down to bare earth and start fresh. That's exactly where we are here.

Before any new liner goes in, every boulder and stone has to come out. This pond had a serious amount of rock work - stacked stone walls, large boulders lining the basin, and years of built-up debris sitting underneath all of it. The teardown phase is unglamorous work, but it's where a good rebuild either gets set up for success or cut short. We don't cut corners here.

One of the things we always emphasize with pond repairs like this: what's under the rocks matters just as much as what's on top. Old liner material, sediment, and debris have to be fully removed before the new liner goes down. Skipping that step is how you end up with problems a few years down the road.

The pond clean out process here was thorough - clearing the basin, pulling equipment, and getting the area prepped so the new liner has a clean, solid foundation to sit on. It's detail work, and it takes time. But that prep is what determines how long the next liner is going to last. Stay tuned - the finished result on this one is going to be worth the wait.
